True Magick: A Beginners Guide

This is the one that started it all. In earlier days, there was so little in print about how magick works, except the great corpus of material on complex and formal ceremonial magick. Why not write a clear, relatively simple introduction to real magick?

The original was literally written at the kitchen table, photocopied, and handed out to friends. Then it evolved into a little booklet called Beginning True Magick, the “Little Red Book,” which Llewellyn asked me to expand upon. That became the “Little Green Book.” Fifteen years later, I updated it and added a lot, and it became the “Bigger Green Book” that you see here. May your Magick be good, and powerful!

Since 1990, Amber K’s “Little Green Book” has guided thousands down the life-changing path of magick. Selling more than 400,000 copies so far, True Magick has truly struck a chord with Witches, Pagans, and magicians around the world.

This is the expanded 15th anniversary edition of True Magick. It features the same delightful introduction to the history and lore of magick, several varieties of magick, ranging from shamanism and Norse Magick to Voudun and Qabala, and, of course, how to. Amber K explains the basics, such as how to find or create ritual tools, establish a temple, plan a ritual, and cast spells safely and ethically. New material includes six more chapters, recommended reading for each chapter, and more than 100 added exercises. What do you want to accomplish with Your Magick? True Magick can help!

A Few Reviews

The best of the Craft

In re-reading your revised True Magick, I have reached a new level of respect for your gentle wisdom. Your book should be “required reading” for all covens. You ladies reflect the best of the Craft.

Perfect place to begin

This book was recommended to me when I began my studying and practice of the magick and Wiccan faith, and it was the perfect place to begin. While so many bookstores have a mind-boggling number of books dealing with magick, it’s difficult to tell what’s helpful and what’s not. Amber K’s book is down to earth, easy to connect with, and certainly isn’t full of nonsense or fluff. It deals with the realities of using magick, and encourages readers to be active in their responsibilities and their growth. It also has many helpful suggestions about continued reading, many exercises that are both challenging and encouraging, and also some tips on locating like minded people either online or through word-of-mouth. I recommend this for beginners and as a refresher for those who’ve been magick users for a while!

ALWAYS the only book I recommend to start people out

I have been a practicing pagan for 6 years and read for about 3 years before that (I know not long but give me a break I’m only 21 lol). When people are interested in witchcraft and want to know where they can find more information this is ALWAYS the only book I recommend to start people out. I own almost all of the traditional reads; Cunningham, Buckland, Starhawk, etc and most of the more prominent modern authors Ravenwolf, Conway, etc. If had known about this book to start out with to be honest I probably would have skipped most of the others. This book beats out all of them for EVERYTHING. I can’t recommend it enough.
